Iraqi Charities Forum asks for established social care centres to sponsor the disabled

One of Iraqi Charities Forum’s goals since its establishment is supporting social care centres to provide humanitarian services. This step has been waiting for the appropriate time: the necessary infrastructure for Iraqi charities; the actual existence; public cultural awareness of the importance of charity work and its role in serving society and achieving welfare; the security and relative stability in Iraq. Currently, the minimum requirements have been fulfilled and the step has taken place. In order to explain this system and its different dimensions, the main articles should be emphasized as follows:

What is the role of Iraqi Charities Forum?

As is known, the Iraqi Charities Forum doesn’t provide direct services to beneficiaries. It provides services through registered and associated Iraqi charities. These charities adopt the tools and working conditions in performing all projects dealt with by the ICF.

For example, sponsoring and fostering 1000 disabled children through the ICF project. The ICF relies on qualified and efficient Iraqi charities in Iraq to provide direct care for beneficiary children and delivering financial dues to them. This project was performed using tools determined by the ICF, carried out with the acceptance of these charities. Now, it is clear how important organized group work is, in order to serve humanitarian work, and how to achieve great goals through united efforts.

Based on these facts, and using the same tools, the ICF will support the project of establishing social care centres throughout Iraqi cities and villages. Centres will be established with the support of the honourable people of Iraq and by Iraqi charities in different areas in dear Iraq. The ICF will provide all types of support for member charities that take part in this joint project, including constructional, technical, the media and financial support. The ICF will do its best to help charities start the project to be eligible for the title “social care centre” and paving the way for the charities to be self-sufficient in the future to run its charity works through coordination with ICF, the official sponsor of this project.

What are social care centres?

Social care centres are charities in Iraq registered as non-governmental organizations, those who have headquarters and suitable places to begin working. Their activities include providing social care services to disabled people (different types of disability) to different age groups and to either gender or one of them according to the ability of the charity. The charity should consent to terms, conditions and measures determined by the ICF regarding social care centres. Thus, the charity can gain the support of ICF membership with serial number while keeping its original name.

For example:

Al Shakiry charity for social care

Social care centre number 1

Each centre is divided into different specialized departments to organize and manage the centre’s works. For example, department of social care and welfare, department of health care, department of research and enrichment for funding sources and ways of expenditure, department of volunteer training (with attention concentrated on disabled volunteers) and department of public affairs. All these departments depend heavily on modern techniques, represented by computers, software and the internet, to communicate, search, develop, organize, manage and archive activities. It also depends on volunteers in different fields to mainly manage and run operations, with priority given to the disabled.

As for the geographical location of these centres, the closer they are to beneficiaries, the more effective they are. Therefore, centres should exist within residential areas.

What type of social care should be provided to the disabled?

All forms of care that can be provided to the disabled, according to the abilities of the centre and the efficiency of the staff and volunteers. Generally, social care includes:

-          Providing financial and corporeal assistance.

-          Support and social care through counselling, offering information, medical care call centres with physicians, offering medicine, performing surgeries, offering auditory, visual and kinetic assistance for beneficiaries and placing all this information into the file of the disabled beneficiary with the charity. The file includes medical reports and a summary of the data on the website.

-          Organizing social parties for this group of people on different occasions, organizing tourists trips to religious monuments and many other activities and sports suitable for them. This will encourage the disabled to get involved in society and make them feel comfortable among the main components of society where they receive appreciation and support.

-          Learning, training and rehabilitating them with different skills.

This is the outline of the disabled social care centre project, supported by the ICF through Al Shakiry’s charity for social care in Albay’a, as an ideal example for this project. This project will be spread throughout charities willing to join the project of disabled social care centres. More related details will be highlighted in ICF future articles.
